Originally from upstate New York, Steve started playing golf at the age of 12 years old. That became the impetus to start working at a local Municipal golf course. Enjoying working there he continued to help out at that club until the age of 16 when he was officially eligible to work. He took his first assistant professional job at a 27-hole semi private club in 1981 and worked there until 1989 when he accepted an assistant professional position at the brand new Jack Nicklaus designed English Turn Golf and Country Club (host to the PGA Tours’ USF&G Classic). After 18 months at English Turn he moved to the New Orleans Country Club and worked there for five more years. Steve Is the only golf professional on record to teach all three Manning’s: Archie, Eli and Payton - cementing their place in history! While in New Orleans he met the love of his life who hailed from Decatur Alabama and has been married to Paula since 1990 (second smartest move he ever made). In 1996 he moved to Greystone as an assistant golf professional under the tutelage of Hank Johnson. After four years as an assistant professional at Greystone, Steve moved up to the head professional position at the Founders course. Upon the Legacy Course opening in 2000, Steve was promoted to Director of Golf in 2001 and has been in that position since.
